Neil Patrick Harris plans return to Broadway in 'Hedwig'

 






NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Neil Patrick Harris will return to Broadway this spring for the first time in nine years in a new staging of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," producers announced.
With text by John Cameron Mitchell and music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, the show is to be directed by Michael Mayer. The production is set to open April 22 at Manhattan's Belasco Theatre, with previews beginning March 29.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- A photographer has filed a battery report with the Los Angeles police, alleging pregnant actress Jennifer Love Hewitt's fiance Brian Hallisay injured him.
TMZ said the incident happened last Friday night as the couple were leaving the Toscana restaurant in Brentwood, Calif.
Hewitt and Hallisay asked the unnamed photographer to leave them alone, but he ignored them and started taking pictures anyway, the celebrity news website reported.
A scuffle ensued and the photographer said his camera hit him in the face near his eye.
Hewitt felt badly about the incident and let the photographer take a few more pictures, but the paparazzo filed a complaint with police after they left and the matter is now under investigation, TMZ said.
Hewitt got engaged to Hallisay, her co-star on TV's "The Client List," in May and announced she was pregnant with their first child in June.

Sharon Osbourne reveals she had a 'fling' with Jay Leno

 





LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Sharon Osbourne revealed on "The Talk" in Los Angeles she had a brief romance with comedian Jay Leno before getting serious with her rocker husband Ozzy.
Osbourne, 60, said she and Leno, 63, dated shortly after she arrived in Los Angeles from London in 1978.
"Remember, at 25, I had met my husband but we weren't together. We were just friends," Osbourne explained on Monday's edition of her chat show.
"So, I'm here, [and] I didn't have a boyfriend -- I never did date a lot at that time anyway because I was not very dateable."
Osbourne said her first impression of Leno after seeing him perform at a comedy club was he was "very nice, very funny."
She said her friend gave her Leno's phone number and she prank-called him several times, which led to him asking her for a date.
"He actually came to my house and met me and we had a little fling," Osbourne said, adding it didn't work out because Leno soon met and fell in love with his wife Mavis Nicholson, marrying her in 1980.
"The fling was more of a fling for me and not fling enough for him because a couple of months later he brought around the real love of his life for me to meet, and she was lovely and they took me to Fatburger and showed me around town," Osbourne said

Jersey Shore’s Mike The Situation Sorrentino Opens Up About Addiction Battle

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Caption Former “Jersey Shore” cast member Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino realized he had an addiction problem on a trip to Australia in February 2012.

He ran out of a prescription to treat an injury suffered during a 2010 stint on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

“All I had to do was get dressed for a family function and I couldn’t do that,” Sorrentino said Monday in an interview with The Associated Press. “The shirt was laid out, the belt, the pants, everything. The shower was on. I couldn’t even get out of bed,” he said. Then he thought, “If I can’t do that how am I going to continue?”

There were rumors at the time that he was battling an addiction to drugs or alcohol but Sorrentino maintains that wasn’t the case and says “those rumors were definitely false. I didn’t mix anything.”

Soon after he checked into rehab where doctors prescribed him with a medication to treat opiod addiction. Sorrentino still takes it daily and says that, combined with counseling, is what works best for him.

The 32-year-old is now a paid spokesman for Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the company that makes the medication he’s taking. He’s also helped launch a program called Reset Reality, to spread knowledge and understanding of opiod prescription painkiller addictions.

The road to figuring out he had a problem wasn’t so easy. Looking back, there were people, like his family, who recognized before he did that something wasn’t right.

For one, he stopped working out as much which was out of character. Also, he recalls “People would say, ‘Mike’s not the same Mike we’ve seen before.’” He would respond, “I don’t know what they’re talking about” or chalk it up to someone not liking him or the show, but now says, “I was suffering a disease.”

After completing rehab, Sorrentino still had one more season to film of “Jersey Shore.”

“A little part of me was like, ‘How am I gonna get through this?’ but if you watched I didn’t have one drink.”

The show aired its final episode last December. Since then Sorrentino has “gotten back to who Michael is.”

The focus is on fitness, family, cooking and he says he also has a girlfriend.

He tries to look at life in 24 hour increments and his goal is to be “the best person I can be for those 24 hours.”

Sorrentino also has plans to return to showbiz and hopes to have career announcements soon, but says staying healthy is his main focus and he’s proud of that.

“The roller coaster of fame and fortune is definitely a ride in itself but to get to recovery is something special. …There is hope out there and you can get help.”

George Zimmerman has been released from custody following Monday's allegedly heated dispute with his sobbing, estranged wife Shellie, who called 911.
On the phone with dispatchers, Shellie Zimmerman claimed that her spouse was threatening her and her father with a gun and that feared for her life.

Local police converged on the home in the Orlando, Fla., suburb of Lake Mary and held George Zimmerman in custody, though he was not arrested.
After speaking to her attorney, Shellie changed her story.
She said she never saw a gun and that she and her father, whom she said Zimmerman had punched in the face, had no interest in pressing charges.
Police later said they did not find a gun on Zimmerman.
The encounter Monday was the latest in a string of incidents in which Zimmerman has landed in the news since his acquittal in the Trayvon Martin case.
Besides Shellie Zimmerman filing for divorce, he's twice been pulled over on suspicion of speeding, and received a ticket on one of those occasions.
He's also appeared in photos at a gun maker that were published online and assisted members of a family from their vehicle following a car wreck.
Monday's dispute isn't uncommon for a couple in the midst of a divorce, said his attorney, Mark O'Mara, who denied any guns or threats were involved.
Shellie Zimmerman had reportedly collected most of her belongings from the house where both she and George had been staying until she moved out.
But she had returned unexpectedly to gather the remaining items and emotions got out of control, although things calmed down once police arrived. Says O'Mara:
"I know the 911 tape suggests that Shellie was saying something but I think that was heightened emotions. There may have been some pushing and touching."
"That happens a lot in divorce situations ... nobody was injured."

Prosecutors, though, could still build a case based on surveillance video from cameras outside the house and from the squad cars of officers who responded.
Florida law allows police officers to arrest someone for domestic violence without the consent of the victim, though it's far from a guarantee in this case.
For the time being, "domestic violence cannot be invoked because she has changed her story and says she didn't see a firearm," an official said.
On the 911 call, Shellie Zimmerman is sobbing and repeating "Oh my God" as she yells at her father to get in the house, saying Zimmerman may start shooting.
"He's threatening all of us with a firearm ... He punched my dad in the nose," Shellie said on the call. "I don't know what he's capable of. I'm really scared."
Police investigated and found the situation slightly less alarming.
"We didn't find a gun," Lake Mary police spokesman Zach Hudson said late Monday night. "We didn't find anything that indicated he had a gun on his person."
"She basically said that he made a movement that would be consistent with a movement someone would make if they had a gun," Hudson added.
Hudson said that George Zimmerman was released from investigative detention around 6:30 p.m., after which "he just walked back into the house."
"Right now he's not a suspect in anything per se," he said, but added that authorities were still viewing the video to see what new information can be found.
Hudson said Zimmerman is free to do whatever he wants at this time, but suspects he will not be staying at the same house given the recent publicity.

"I don't know. I genuinely don't know," Cumberbatch told MTV News' Josh Horowitz while promoting his new film--the WikiLeaks drama "The Fifth Estate"--at the Toronto International Film Festival. Whether or not Cumberbatch genuinely does or does not know remains up in the air, as he may have grown accustomed to telling white lies about his film work thanks to his time on the "Star Trek Into Darkness" promotional tour, where the actor could never once mention the real character he was playing.
Cumberbatch does seem to be honest when he revealed just how badly he would like to be involved in the new "Star Wars"--a desire that apparently Abrams or George Lucas is also aware of. "People know I'd like to be, including the boss, most importantly."
These rumors first popped up last week when Cumberbatch suddenly pulled out of director Guillermo Del Toro's next film, "Crimson Peak." Tom Hiddleston stepped into the role, replacing one fan favorite actor for another, but this action, Cumberbatch theorizes, led to his present association with "Star Wars."
"This is all conjecture after me passing on another film, and that meant me meeting with people saying, 'Ah, he's passed to free himself up for 'Star Wars.'' Don Jazzy Nominated To Replace Sacked Youth Minister?

It’s no more news that the Inuwa Abdulkadir, the former Youth Minister was sacked by President Goodluck Jonathan on August 26, 2013 after engaging in some activities contrary to the ideals of the present administration.

After debunking widespread rumours that the Abdulkadir was sacked for failing to ensure that the president’s preferred candidate emerged as head of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the presidency explained that the former minister was shown the way out due to his “regrettable deviation from his presidential commitment in the management of the NYCN elections that led to the decision to relieve him of his appointment as Minister of Youth Development.”

The Presidency through Reuben Abati, the presidential adviser on Media and Publicity said Jonathan was very displeased with the mishandling of the NYCN elections in Makurdi and Minna by the Ministry of Youth Development which resulted in the unfortunate fractionalization of the youth council.

With Abdulkadir gone with his attendant under-achievement, the question remains: who will the President Jonathan appoint to man the Youth Ministry in an effective manner?

Jennifer Love Hewitt's Fiance Brian Hallisay Accused of Assaulting Paparazzo

Jennifer Love Hewitt's fiance Brian Hallisay is reportedly under investigation following a paparazzi scuffle. According to TMZ, the incident took place on Friday, September 6. Jennifer and Brian were leaving Toscana restaurant in Brentwood, Los Angeles when a photographer took their pictures.

"The Client List" co-stars told the paparazzo to stop taking photos, but the cameraman ignored their request. Brian and the paparazzo reportedly were involved in a scuffle, in which the paparazzo got hit near his eye with the camera. The pregnant "Ghost Whisperer" star apparently felt so bad and let the paparazzo took a few more pictures before she and Brian left.

Hours later, the cameraman later filed a battery report against the 34-year-old actor. Some sources said that there was no apparent injury to his face or near his eye when he was at police station. Police are currently investigating the report.

The expectant mother, who is due to give birth in December, recently opened up about her pregnancy. "Sometimes it's been tough to adjust to weird little things like your hips go numb at night so you have to keep switching sides, and I started making old lady noises as I walk down the stairs. You know, things like that," she told Us Weekly in August, adding that Brian had been "doing a great job taking care of me and supporting me."

Eminem Teases 'Berzerk' Music Video

Less than a month after he released "Berzerk", the first single off his forthcoming eighth studio album "MMLP2", Eminem is looking to unveil the track's music video anytime soon. The Grammy Award-winning rap superstar premiered a teaser of the video during his halftime gap appearance at the ESPN broadcast of the Michigan-Notre Dame college football game Saturday night, September 7.

The one-minute-plus clip shows Slim Shady, looking like he never aged since his last music video, rocking a Detroit Pistons jersey and matching headgear in a shout-out to his hometown. Mars will take after Beyonce Knowles' show-stopping halftime performance earlier this year, featuring a short reunion with Destiny's Child. Beyonce's set was watched by a whopping 110.5 million viewers, but it still fell short of Madonna's performance the year before that attracted 114 million viewers, making it the most-watched event in U.S. television history.

Artist of the Week: Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae is an artist to watch who consistently made critically-acclaimed songs for her records. After the Grammy-nominated "Metropolis: The Chase Suite" in 2007 and "The ArchAndroid" in 2010, she's back this year ready to win critics' heart again with her new R&B/soul work "The Electric Lady".

In the latest album due in the United States on September 10, the "Tightrope" hitmaker didn't collaborate with just any artist. The singer/songwriter hooks up some of the best performers in the business such as Prince, Erykah Badu, Solange Knowles, Miguel and Esperanza Spalding.

"With this particular album, I wanted to go through R&B music that ranges from people like Bo Diddley to Jimi Hendrix to classical music," she once explained of what her vision was for the CD. "That's what I love doing, is playing with all these different styles of music and creating something that just has not been heard."

The lead single "Q.U.E.E.N" which features Badu is climbing to the top 50 on Billboard R&B Songs chart. "Erykah was one of the first female artists to reach out to me. It was when I had my first EP out and not a lot of people knew about [me]," she told NPR. " 'Q.U.E.E.N' was really inspired by private conversations that she and I have about our community"

"How we can uplift them, and how we deal with those who feel marginalized and don't often have people standing up for their rights - whether that be gays, lesbians, immigrants. Women are often marginalized and we wanted to show that two strong women can work together and create something great."

Earning a notable spot in music due to her expertise in crafting good songs is not the only achievement she has accomplished. Her distinct sense of fashion shown through her signature sleek tuxedo outfit and immaculately coiffed hairdo has also led her to being named the 2012 CoverGirl spokesperson.

Monae recently performed at New York Fashion Week. "Art, fashion and music are all one. With my style I try to be consistent and classic. I feel as though I'm a time traveler, so I like to dress appropriate at all times. I think labels are boring," she gushed.

'Sacro GRA' Bags Golden Lion Award at Venice Film Festival

A festival jury headed by veteran filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci has adjudged Italian documentary "Sacro GRA" as the annual film fest's best film this year. For its director Gianfranco Rosi's excellent exploration of the lives of people who live and work around the famous Rome ring highway, "Sacro GRA" bagged the Golden Lion Award, the festival's highest honor, becoming the first documentary to ever win the coveted award.


Receiving the trophy from Venice Biennale president Paolo Baratta on Saturday night, September 7, Rosi said it was "an incredible honor." Unfortunately, Rosi failed to win the Silver Lion prize for directing, which went to Greece's Alexandros Avranas, director of special jury prize winner "Miss Violence", a film about the suicide of an 11-year-old girl.

"I didn't expect to win such an important prize with a documentary," said Rosi after his work became the first Italian production in fifteen years to bring home the Golden Lion trophy. "It was truly an act of courage, a barrier has been broken," the filmmaker described his latest feat.

Apart from the surprise win of "Sacro GRA", the night was full of other unexpected winners, among them was Elena Cotta as Best Actress for "A Street in Palermo", which many thought would go to Judi Dench for her masterful acting in "Philomena". Nonetheless, the Stephen Frears film did walk away with the Best Screenplay Award for the writing tandem of Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope.

Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez to Team Up for a New Song

Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez are working on a new song collaboration that is set to appear on J.Lo's next studio album that will come out early next year. It will follow up their live duet of "Jenny from the Block" during the final "Red" tour show in Los Angeles last August 25.

"Sang Jenny From the Block with @JLo tonight at Staples Center. STILL FANGIRLING OUT ABOUT IT," the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer wrote on Twitter after the sold-out show. The "Live It Up" performer tweeted back, "@taylorswift13 had so much fun with you tonight!!! #RedTourLA #jennyfromtheblock #hairbrushsongs."

Even before her online message, J.Lo had already been showering Swift with her kind words, reportedly telling the young pop superstar during a Staples Center backstage huddle, "Thank you so much for allowing our family to come and be a part of your family."

The come-backing "American Idol" judge called Swift "gracious and beautiful" for inviting her to be the special surprise guest in her tour finale, saying, "I feel very blessed to be able to share the stage with you, and I just hope that everybody has the best show that they could ever have."

Although there were no details yet as to the type of song that they're going to come up with for J.Lo's tenth studio album, it's expected to be another big hit. The still-untitled LP will also feature a collaboration between Lopez and hip-hop superstar Chris Brown.
